Israel has accused Iran of breaking the ceasefire and threatened to retaliate with “intense strikes.”
According to reports, the Israeli military has detected missiles that were allegedly fired from Iran on Tuesday, June 24.
Despite an alleged ceasefire between the two countries, according to BBC, Israel’s defence minister has reportedly instructed the military to “respond forcefully to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire with intense strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran.”
The specifics of the purported strike are unclear, though, as Iranian state media assert that Iran has refuted claims that it launched a missile after the ceasefire was established.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, recently stated on X that Iran had “no intention to continue our response afterwards” if Israel halts.
“As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around,” he stated.
“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”
“The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.”
Following US President Donald Trump’s call for Israel and Iran to not “violate” the truce, which went into effect today, the update was released.
Early in the morning, the US commander-in-chief posted on Truth Social to declare that an armistice between the two countries was now in effect.
He stated: “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!)”
He then followed it up with a warning to both countries, which read, “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!”
Trump later added: “Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, ‘PEACE!’ I knew the time was NOW.”
