Metal, fits in your hand well, around .5lb. Found at a garage sale. any ideas?

HERE ARE SOME OF THE ANSWERS:

  1. This looks like a homemade tool, possibly for self-defense(?), but it may be impossible to know what it’s intended use is if it is in fact homemade. Some other possible ideas im throwing out there: leatherworking knife, skinning knife, woodworking knife, or a gardening tool.
  2. Maybe a modified railroad spike? (For the purposes you described)
  3. my bored friend and I used to make crude weapons with grinders and hack saws from random chucks of metals. Railroad spikes, old hammers, stones , going as far as heating the metal in makeshift furnaces. And we made quite a bit of “beautiful” pieces. I’m not positive but it looks like something we would make.
  4. It looks like a tool for cutting lobster/crab legs and getting the meat out (and the other half/blade is missing)
  5. Looks like a skinner to me. The thin point is for piercing the skin and the blade is for separating the flesh from the meat. That’s my opinion.
  6. This could be a vintage motorcycle brake handle, maybe salvaged off a wrecked bike, and reshaped for a tool or art project like the leg of a scorpion. The most telling evidence it is a brake handle is the shape of the bigger end. It looks like it was possibly a bit larger and had a hole for the cable, but this was ground off to make what this is.
  7. Could be a pull handle off an old refrigerator? Possibly modified….
  8. By surface finish it looks homemade, improvised or at least modified. On top is definitely an edge, and it’s it’s not sharp that might indicate some custom tool. Since it has no pointy end I don’t think it’s intended as a weapon. Material looks like some kind of stainless
  9. Looks like a prison shiv.I wonder if this is a custom modified tool. My dad has a bunch of random pieces of metal that have been cut and bent to be used as a tool for a specific need.
  10. It looks like a hand crafted tool for sure. Someone’s labor of love. It’s really cool looking. but it definitely shows that only one side has the blade on it so I would think it’s for skinning something.

  12. Looks like a skinning knife to me, they’re made especially small to find all the weird corners/angles. Though it doesn’t entirely make sense how long that handle is
  13. Could this be a tool for weaving carpets? The blade part would cut the wool and could easily be held in the weaver’s hand. Also, the other end could be used for separating threads on the warp.
  14. Piton for securing a rope to a rock face while climbing.
  15. My Uncle used to make leather hides. This reminds me of his handmade scraper he used to scrape the fiddly bits.
  16. Is it not a homemade escape tool for in cars? Large end looks sharp for cutting seatbelt, then pointy end for breaking windows maybe?
  17. Part of a piano? The hammer without the felt pad that goes to one of the three pedals? I see a piece of coiled copper wire there at the bottom inside.
  18. It looks like a blunt filleting blade with a descaling edge maybe
  19. I agree with everyone saying it’s a handmade tool but the shape of the handle immediately made me envision throwing it. I wonder if this is some sort of handmade trick weapon for knife or axe throwing
  20. Looks like a graston tool (used by chiropractors and physical therapist) there are many different types but it is used to brake up scar tissue.
  21. Looks similar to a thing I had in the car to break the windows in case of emergency. Not sure if that’s it’s intended use, but that’s what I was told.
