Unexpectedly, a popular neighborhood cafe was forced to close its doors and fire eight staff members after three neighbors complained about the scent of bacon permeating the air. You did really read correctly—the delicious smell of bacon! As a result of this peculiar story, planning officials took severe action against Emma Ayles, 47, the owner of The Caddy Shack Cafe and mother of two children. As the holidays approached, Emma was devastated to have to close her cherished business.
The complaint was raised by Dorset Council, which stated that the cafe’s actions caused “unacceptable harm” to the living conditions of the nearby neighbors. In April 2022, Emma opened The Caddy Shack Cafe, a quaint cafe she had converted from a metal shipping container with permission from the Weymouth and Portland Rugby Club in Dorset. The club allowed Emma to use the area temporarily while she worked to get permanent planning authorization.
As soon as the cafe opened, locals, students, and those riding mobility scooters swarmed in to enjoy the charming ambiance. It was more than just a place to buy food; it functioned as a communal hub that brought together various groups.
