Twin pregnancies are still extremely rare, even though their frequency increased by 72% between 1980 and 2018.Approximately 33 newborns per 1,000 are twins.

Savannah Combs, 23, was overjoyed to learn that she was expecting twins. She later learned that they are both affected by the uncommon disease known as Down syndrome.
Of course, the knowledge was upsetting. Because of her illness and the circumstances surrounding her children, Savannah and her husband Justin Ackerman were aware that some people would think less of them.
Savannah, though, thinks that’s part of what makes them so beautiful.
“They’ve been my little gems, but what they have is extremely rare,” the woman remarked.
Middleburg, Florida native Savannah McKenli Ackerman and her children, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, were well-known immediately after she shared videos of her postpartum experience on TikTok.
Savannah said in a video that she was told to abort her children because they wouldn’t survive.
She made the decision to keep them and give them a try.
“I saw each prenatal visit they had while still alive as a blessing,” Savannah remarked.
Her husband had gone to boot camp after she found out that she and he had Down syndrome.
When Savannah was admitted to the hospital, she was 29 weeks pregnant and gave birth to twins. Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, identical twin daughters, were born on May 12, 2021.
The twins had to stay in the NICU for several weeks before being permitted to go home because they were born two months early.
