Armed Carjacker Dies While Fleeing Police, Mom Demands Answers: ‘He Was Not A Criminal’

Taylor and two other suspects, according to the police, carjacked a pizza delivery worker in the 3400 block of Merle Drive in Woodlawn shortly before 4 p.m. Soon after, police spotted the vehicle, and they began chasing it through Baltimore County, ending at Northern Parkway and Highgate Drive.

A firearm was reportedly thrown out the window, according to the authorities, and it was later found. The suspects exited the driving vehicle at the intersection of Northern Parkway and Liberty Road. While one Baltimore County police cruiser pursued the fleeing criminals, another struck the automobile. As Taylor went down Highgate Drive, the cruiser hit him.

“From what we can tell at this point, there’s nothing that shows that this officer struck the suspect intentionally,” Baltimore County police Cpl. Shawn Vinson said. The county police insisted that the officers complied with policy and that they were unable to provide any further details due to the ongoing investigation.

Cook, though, is requesting clarification. “He wasn’t an offender. She remarked, “My son was a homebody. Taron Kelly, 16, was taken into custody in relation to the event. He was accused of armed robbery, armed carjacking, auto theft, gun possession, and possessing a firearm while underage. He is being held without bond after being charged as an adult. There is still no sign of the third suspect. The collision event is being looked into by Baltimore City police. The accountable officer was put on regular administrative leave.
