Cat’s meowing leads police to missing 83-year-old woman who fell into ravine

Bodmin Police and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service moved quickly to save the woman and pull her out of the canyon after she went missing.

When she was lifted out, Cornwall Air Ambulance rushed her to the hospital. As long as she receives treatment, she remains stable and reported to be “in good spirits.”

“It’s a massive ‘well done’ to all the emergency services who worked together and to Piran,” the anonymous neighbor told the BBC. “The consequences could have been far worse.”

Though emergency services actually performed the rescue, Piran deserves a great deal of credit for saving his owner’s life. Given the woman’s age and the fact that the rescuers couldn’t see her, it’s easy to see how things may have gone quite differently if the cat hadn’t been so observant.

The cat has been hailed as a hero, with others exclaiming, “Piran the cat saved the day!” Facebook post from the Bodin Police.

Outstanding work, Piran! You definitely saved the day, so it seems that your vigilante mentality paid off. What a clever cat!
