Ellen DeGeneres Cancels 4 Summer Stand-Up Dates

The rescheduled dates are July 10 in Dallas, July 21 in San Francisco, July 23 in Seattle, and August 11 in Chicago, per Ticketmaster.

There was no further information provided regarding the cancellation.

The 66-year-old comedian announced the dates of his 27-show North American tour in late May. A announcement shared with PEOPLE at the time stated that these dates would be the “last opportunity” to see DeGeneres in her “final curtain call.”

In the same month, PEOPLE disclosed that DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix special will be her “final,” with filming set to take place in Minneapolis on August 16 and 17.

“There is nobody quite like Ellen,” said Robbie Praw, Vice President of Stand-Up and Comedy Formats at Netflix, in a news release praising the skills of the former talk show presenter.

“She is a real legend and pioneer in so many ways,” Praw remarked. “We’re excited to give fans another hilarious comedy special featuring her later this year.”

The 2018 DeGeneres special Relatable was previously accessible on the streaming service.

She returned to comedy after announcing in May 2021 that she would be leaving her chat program of the same name after season 19.

Current and former workers anonymously discussed their experiences on set in a July 2020 BuzzFeed News piece. They included claims of being reprimanded for seeking medical leave, instances of racial microaggressions, and fear of retaliation for making complaints. The TV personality talked about getting canceled at the time during an interview on Today.

“I really didn’t understand it; I still don’t understand it,” DeGeneres remarked to Savannah Guthrie in May 2021. “It was incredibly organized and planned.”

During an L.A. standup performance in April, DeGeneres joked that she was “kicked out of show business” for being “mean.”

“I would try to avoid looking at the news because the hate went on for a long time,” she said, continuing in a different tone. The young lady who advised kindness wasn’t kind. That was stated in the headline.
