Fyodor Petrovich had long wanted to visit his son’s grave, but illness kept him home. One morning, feeling a bit stronger, he and his old dog Buyan set out, determined to fix the broken fence around the grave. His son, Sasha, wasn’t his by blood—he and his wife had adopted him from an orphanage.Over the years, Sasha had become their pride, joining the military and returning home only when he fell seriously ill. They lost him young, and not long after, Fyodor’s wife passed too, leaving him alone. At the cemetery, while Fyodor was clearing fallen branches, Buyan began barking and digging furiously. Beneath the dirt, they found a cardboard box.Inside—wrapped in rags—was a newborn baby girl, barely alive.Fyodor rushed her to Olga, the village’s former paramedic, just in time to save her.The next day, a stranger arrived. He introduced himself as Herman—the girl’s grandfather. His daughter had died in childbirth, and her husband, seeking inheritance, had buried the infant alive. Thanks to Fyodor and Buyan, the baby survived. The man thanked Fyodor with a box of gifts and money. Weeks later, Fyodor finally returned to the cemetery—this time to find a beautiful new memorial already in place for his son and wife. Herman had arranged it in gratitude. Fyodor sat down on the bench between the graves, smiling. That’s where neighbors later found him—peacefully gone, as if reunited with his family. Buyan lived two more years and was buried near Fyodor and his loved ones, never leaving their side.
