The Ceasefire Movement
Israel’s war on Gaza has resulted in over 30,000 deaths since October 7th, with nearly half of Gaza’s population being children. As the conflict continues, the call for a ceasefire grows louder. Over 400 celebrities joined the Artists4Ceasefire campaign, urging President Joe Biden and Congress to call for an immediate ceasefire.
Limited Visibility at the Oscars
Unlike the widespread support for movements like Time’s Up in 2018, the ceasefire pins were worn by only a few celebrities at the 2024 Oscars. At the Grammy Awards earlier this year, only Boygenius and Annie Lennox were seen wearing the same pins, with Lennox pleading for a ceasefire on stage.
Other Notable Advocates
Actors Milo Machado-Graner and Swann Arlaud from “Anatomy of a Fall” also wore pins of the Palestinian flag. Ramy Youssef, co-star of ‘Poor Things,’ expressed frustration with the slow progress toward a ceasefire. “There’s no other route,” Youssef said. “It’s taking so long… That’s what we’re all encouraging everyone to be vocal about.”
Widespread Support for Peace
Other celebrities supporting the Artists4Ceasefire letter include Cate Blanchett, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Bradley Cooper, and America Ferrera.
