Kelly McGillis was born on July 9, 1957, in Newport Beach, California. She is the eldest of three daughters born to Virginia Joan, a homemaker, and Dr. Donald Manson McGillis, a physician.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Kelly attended the prestigious Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria, California. Her passion for acting led her to further her studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she honed her craft and graduated in 1983.
Breakthrough Role in “Witness”
Kelly McGillis’s big break came in 1985 when she starred opposite Harrison Ford in the critically acclaimed film “Witness.” Her portrayal of an Amish widow, Rachel Lapp, earned her widespread recognition and a Golden Globe nomination.
