Investing in Quality: My $6,500 Black Angus Bull Purchase

He looked perfect—strong, healthy, and exactly what I was after. I couldn’t wait to see the impact he’d have. But once I introduced him to the cows, my excitement started to fade. Instead of showing interest, he wandered off and grazed. Day after day, he ignored the herd completely. Not once did he try to breed.Weeks passed, and my frustration grew. I began to wonder if he was too young or just not cut out for breeding. It felt like a bad investment with no payoff in sight.I finally called the vet, who gave him a full check-up and declared him healthy but probably inexperienced. “Give him one of these pills daily,” he said, handing me a bottle of supplements. Skeptical, I followed his advice. To my surprise, within two days the bull transformed. He became relentless, breeding all the cows—and then broke through the fence to breed my neighbor’s cows too. The turnaround was astonishing. The neighbors weren’t thrilled, of course. I promised to reinforce the fences, though I couldn’t help but admire his newfound drive.Curious, I tasted one of the pills. It was minty—like a peppermint. Hard to believe something so simple had such a dramatic effect.Looking back, I learned not to judge too quickly. What I thought was a poor investment turned out to be one of the best. Now, I just need stronger fences—and maybe a few more of those pills.
