Raising Kids in the Digital Age: Creative Parenting Solutions

The 31-year-old Jordan Driskell came up with a brilliant plan to get over his obstacles. Purchasing kid-specific leashes helped him better control his hyperactive kids while they are out in public.

The family used to schedule their visits around a stroller with six seats. Sadly, the parents and children quickly discovered how demanding this alternative was. The kids would get restless in the stroller, and it was incredibly awkward to take anywhere.

On the other hand, the leashes ensure that their father never loses sight of the kids while providing a practical and safe way for them to wander and explore their surroundings. The Driskell family’s life has been drastically altered by it!

However, not everyone has accepted this parenting choice. Surprisingly, Driskell’s video of the family’s aquarium excursion became viral, garnering over 3 million views. Unfortunately, the response was not entirely positive. Critics contend that children shouldn’t be handled like animals and shouldn’t be leashed.

Some even suggested that if Driskell couldn’t manage the weight, he shouldn’t have had so many kids in the first place. Others offered unwelcome advice, suggesting that the children receive proper training or be made aware of the risks associated with straying.

Parenting specialist Dr. Deborah Gilboa offered a another perspective in response to the criticism. She feels that a child on a leash does not make them feel like animals. When parents use a leash, they can actually take their children outside rather than confining them inside their homes.

Dr. Gilboa emphasizes that leashes can help regulate a child’s behavior in public, which is especially helpful for younger kids or kids with neurodiverse issues. She does caution that, in order to lessen the need for leashes, neurotypical children should ideally begin learning how to listen by the time they are eight or nine years old.

Ultimately, parents ought to be able to choose the approach that best suits their unique circumstances without fear of unjustified social condemnation. Respecting a parenting style is essential as long as it safeguards the children’s security and well-being.
