Restaurant files lawsuit against customer for leaving $3,000 waitress tip on his $13 meal

In a surprising turn of events, a restaurant in Pennsylvania has found itself in a legal battle with a customer who left an astronomical $3,000 tip on a $13 meal. This unusual situation has sparked a nationwide debate about tipping culture and the complexities that can arise when customers decide to be exceptionally generous.

The story unfolded at Alfredo’s Cafe, a local eatery in Scranton, where a customer ordered a modest meal and then proceeded to leave an astonishing $3,000 tip for the waitress, Mariana Lambert. Understandably, the staff was initially elated by the generous gesture, with employee Matt Martini even requesting additional identification from the customer to verify the tip.

“It really meant a lot to me because everyone’s going through stuff. It really touched my heart,” Mariana expressed, still in a state of shock over the unexpected windfall.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn a few weeks later when the restaurant received a letter from the customer, requesting that the $3,000 tip be returned. Alfredo’s Cafe had already transferred the money to Mariana, leaving the establishment responsible for paying it back out of their own pocket.

“Now we’re just left high and dry. And he told us to sue him. So that’s what we’re going to do, I guess,” said employee Zachary Jacobson, reflecting the frustration and financial burden the restaurant now faces.
