Biles has been open about her hair journey and the demands placed on her as a gymnast. She admitted in an Elle interview that social media served as an inspiration for Black women to take better care of their hair and beauty routines. She claimed that although she was no longer self-conscious about her hair, she had previously been concerned about how others would perceive her professional style.

Not surprisingly, after Biles was criticized, a lot of her loyalists stood up for her. Imagine being the kind of person who observes Simone Biles performing feats that no one else can, like landing on her feet after spinning around multiple times in the air, and then comments on her hair! A fan wrote. Could you see yourself thinking like that? Another commentator stated, “People are worried about Simone Biles’ hair while she’s out here making history.” Our culture is really cooked.

Apart from her incredible athletic ability, Simone Biles is a source of inspiration because of her resilience and ability to accept constructive criticism. Her message is extremely clear: focus more on her incredible athletic ability than on her hair.
