The Special Journey of Savannah and Her Twins with Down Syndrome

When Savannah learned that both of her girls had Down syndrome, her husband Justin was away at boot camp. On May 12, 2021, at 29 weeks pregnant, she was admitted to the hospital, whereupon she gave birth to identical twin girls. It took many weeks for Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman to be discharged from the NICU due to their early arrival.

“They are called mono di twins because, despite having individual sacs, they shared a placenta that guaranteed their identity,” Savannah explained. “The Mo di twins are one in a million, made even rarer by the addition of Down syndrome.”

Despite their unusual illness, Savannah insists that her daughters are just like any other child. They have beating hearts and are capable of learning and growth. Savannah shows her faith in their future by sharing updates and accomplishments on TikTok.

“These kids are happy little things and feisty little things,” she said with pride. They may take a little longer to succeed, but they will still achieve. If they put their minds to it, they will succeed.

Unfortunately, a few people have been rude and disparaging of Savannah and her family. Someone else told her that since they wouldn’t want any children similar to hers, they would place her kid up for adoption. But Savannah had the perfect counterargument:

It’s fortunate that I gave birth to them rather than you. God knew precisely what he was doing when he sent these babies to the right parents, who would love them no matter what.
